h2. Abstract
Semantifire is a semantic search engine developed at SETU Software Systems, IIIT, Hyderabad. In this engine, queries and documents are processed semantically that enable semantic search capabilities. The engine initially builds OWL ontology from the documents in the enterprise. This ontology can also be integrated with other Ontologies on the web or enterprise. The ontology keeps growing with time. When a chunk of text is identified to be a potential concept it is added to the ontology. Nevertheless, the user/ administrator has the option to edit the ontology using ontology editing tools like Protege etc. This gives much control over the ontology. As the bots crawl the documents in the enterprise an Information Extraction module identifies the important concepts. The output can be exported in RDF, a w3c compliant standard and supports many standard document formats.
Additionally, the entity linker links the identified concepts to global Ontologies on the web. For example, a persons' first name links to the FOAF:NAME, a book title to Title in the Dublin Core Ontology. The administrator has the control to add new Ontologies to the engine. These are used to infer new relationships from the documents. The semantic information is encoded in the form of RDF. Can also be exported in other formats like RDF triples, N3 etc. Furthermore, Sematifire supports RDFS, for describing class types used in RDF. The Semantifire engine provides an SPARQL end point for querying. This enables the user to fire very complex queries like "Collect E-mail ids of all the employees involved with Fortune 500 companies" or "Show the Titles of projects supporting RDF document formats". All the formats used are w3c standard document types.
h2. About the speaker
Prasad Pingali completed his Ph.D from IIIT Hyderabad in 2009, specializing in Information Access Technologies for unstructured content. He is now the CEO and Co-founder of a start-up company called SETU Software Systems and also an Adjunct Faculty at IIIT Hyderabad. He has about 25 research publications and taught for 5 years in the areas of information retrieval, extraction and summarization technologies. Prior to this research career Prasad worked at various positions in two start-up companies in the US during 2000-2003.
