Jhansi Kandasamy, Idaho National Laboratory

Abstract: Idaho National Laboratory has committed to reaching net-zero carbon emissions across its entire
site by 2031. Meeting this audacious goal will require that INL reduce emissions from approximately 300
buildings and 600 vehicles as well as purchase carbon-free energy to power operations across its 890 square
mile campus. This presentation will share how INL is measuring Net-Zero progress as well as successes to
date including transitioning the fleet to electric vehicles and using renewable diesel, monitoring the landfill,
conducting building efficiency upgrades, conducting research and development on advanced nuclear
energy technology, and supporting low- or no-emission commuting options for employees. The
presentation will also introduce INL’s roadmap to net-zero through advanced nuclear energy, which
describes the planned process for securing clean 24/7 energy for the site.
