Please plan to attend this meeting of the Industry Applications Society. The Speaker will be Pavi Gopinath, Application Protection Engineer at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratory.

Increasing distributed energy resource (DER) interconnection on the distribution electric power system (EPS) requires more industry knowledge of how to properly protect these applications and meet requirements laid out in industry standards. In this session, participants will learn how to apply protection at the point of common coupling.

  • Demonstrate need for anti-islanding at POI.
  • Propose protection scheme for system protection at POI.
  • Provide settings guidelines for advanced anti-islanding detection elements.

Biography:

About the Speaker:

Ms. Pavithra Gopinath is an Application Protection Engineer at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratory. Her focus is on technical customer support and technical training on various protection theory and SEL products. Pavithra has been with SEL since 2017, previously working with the engineering services group as a project engineer before moving to the customer services group as an application engineer. Pavithra has experience in developing and evaluating protection relay settings, performing coordination studies, arc flash studies, hardware in the loop testing of transmission protection settings, auto transfer schemes, microgrid controls and other controls algorithm using real-time digital simulator (RTDS). She has received her bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Anna University, Chennai, India, and master’s degree in electrical engineering from University of Houston, TX.
