Invitation to Attend Nov 11, 2023 Virtual EMBS Event “Application of Bluetooth in a Medical Setting”
The IEEE Washington DC/Northern VA and Baltimore Technical Chapters of the Engineering Medicine & Biology Society (EMBS) extends an invitation for you to attend Dr. Paul Otto’s virtual three-part lecture series presentations on the application of Bluetooth in the hospital and other medical environments. The first lecture is on the Application of Bluetooth in Medical Settings. The second talk is about how Bluetooth Technologies Protect Patient Data and Privacy. The third and final presentation will focus on Bluetooth’s Logistics Tracking Protocols.

Application of Bluetooth in a Medical Setting
The healthcare industry faces many logistical and operational challenges, including tracking equipment and medicine, reducing disease transmission in hospitals, and obtaining the right data to improve patient outcomes.
Topics covered in the Application of Bluetooth in a Medical Setting will introduce both the fundamentals of Bluetooth and survey the devices used in the healthcare environment with a focus on:
- Data transmission procedures
- Health care profiles and services
- Power consumption profiles
- Audio
Biography:
Paul Otto received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from George Mason University in 2019. He worked as a research assistant in Siddhartha Sikdar's Biomedical Imaging Lab and his research interests include compact low-power hardware for Sonomyography and low-power wireless protocols which have applications in medical devices. Currently, he works at Teledyne LeCroy Corporation where his focus is on developing solutions for the Frontline X500 and X240 Wireless Protocol Analyzers and the Bluetooth Protocol Testers testHarmony and conformanceHarmony.
Dr Otto became an IEEE member as a student in 1995 while completing his BS in Electrical Engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology. He continued his membership while at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University as a Graduate Student and as a professional. Dr Otto served as an officer in several roles from 2007-2011 for the Wash DC/NOVA EMBS Chapter.
