Millimeter Wave TX-RX TECHNIQUES:OPPORTUNITY IN OIL AND GAS EXPLORATION
Geophysical techniques used for petroleum exploration utilize equipment to measure such things as: electrical currents, gravitational and magnetic anomalies, heat flow, geochemical relationships, and density variations from deep within the earth. The use of RF/MW imaging radars allows to evaluation of ground morphology and soil rugosity. Conventional drilling methods are expensive. The millimeter wave is a promising candidate for deep drilling in rocky layers. The topic of discussion includes techniques used in deep drilling for oil and gas exploration: Data analysis and the opportunity for AI-ML to enable microwave-based solutions and Disruptive drilling technology to lower the cost and increase reliability.
IEEE AP-S Chapter, COPE, and SIGHT Projects supervised by Dr. Ajay Poddar, IEEE Fellow, and Chair IEEE AP-S CAC, invite brainstorming session, targetting RF/MW solutions to replace the conventional drill bits that mechanically break up the rock with millimeter wave energy to melt and then vaporize the rock to create holes for oil and gas industry.
