Section Officers Reports

Old and new business

1) Students from UCSD report that transportation to in-person events is a big impediment. Can we identify transportation resources, or develop more meeting locations that are on the trolley routes? This might be a good thing for a committee to form up about and report back about in December.

2) The Consultants' Network needs support for officer elections. They have some challenges that the Section needs to address and help solve in order for free and fair 2024 elections. There have been proposals made to the elections chair, Zhensheng. Any variation from the way affinity groups handle elections should be reviewed and approved by the executive committee. There has been evidence presented to the nominations committee chair that specific actions could be taken that would ensure successful officer elections of the CN for 2024.

3) Our Annual Awards Banquet is 20 January 2024. We will open with a string quartet, showing the magic of performance, from 1100 to 1200, and there's a puzzle included in the music. Banquet lunch from 1200 to 1300. 1300 to 1330 is more magic, which will challenge what your eyes are telling you. We all know that engineering looks like magic to those that directly benefit from our efforts. Here's a chance to capture a bit of that feeling. 1330 to 1430 is awards (not plaques this year! Something entirely different!) for our wonderful volunteers and a very high quality technical presentation that is still in the works. It will be absolutely worth seeing if we can get it booked. This is a packed event that is worth well more than $30. We need the best marketing we can muster to fill La Gran Terraza at USD. Please help. The vTools link is https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/382426 note that every chapter has been included in order to start everyone out with a chapter event. Please spread the word directly to your chapter and invite people to come. This is a really nice venue that will give you the chance to network and catch up with people from your Society to start the year off right.

4) The San Diego County Engineering Council annual banquet is coming up. This is an ordinary budgeted expense. Details and links for payment of the Founders Package ($500) are in the PDF uploaded to the media section of vTools for this meeting.

Actions that need to be taken:
1) Pay for the Founders Package, and include a Display Table for IEEE San Diego Section.
2) Advertise to the Section for ticket takers. There are 8 tickets included in the Founders Package.
