The World's First Wireless Fiber
TAbstract: In Upper Mount Bethel, Pennsylvania, the three major cellular Communication Companies installed a single Tower to cover the 43.4 square miles (112 sq. km) area of the township. The township is rural and is covered by thick forests with several housing units built inside them. The township's population is approximately 6,487. Three areas within the township received no connection, and citizens in these areas demanded that the township arrange for cellular communication service. All three major cellular communication Companies showed no interest in obliging as the financial benefits were considered inconsequential, with only a small number of citizens affected. Since no licensed band was available, the solution proposed by ETI was the use of high-power Wi-Fi (5.725-5.850 GHz) to improve connection; an initial survey indicated two possible areas for installing a Telecommunications Tower. One area was on a horse farm hill, and a second area was an existing electric substation established on a hilly environment. Due to slow progress in negotiations with the Electricity Authority, the horse farm hill was chosen.
The question arose whether the new Tower could be employed to connect unserved cellular areas and provide High-Speed Broadband Internet for various Fixed Nomadic, and Mobile unserved and underserved locations. This paper presents the results of a Preliminary Study to improve Cellular Connectivity and introduce High Speed Broadband Internet coverage from a Single Tower. The Wireless High Internet Speeds are similar to Optical Fiber Speeds without the large costs and slow deployment associated with Fiber Optic Cable Connections.
The proposed ETI system solution is the World's First Wireless Fiber."
