Biography:
A hands-on technical architect and CTO with over 35 years of designing and delivering innovative, high-profile, large-scale software and services, Donald is currently overseeing generative AI technology strategy and architecture at LinkedIn as a Distinguished Engineer. Donald co-founded Maana (acquired by Spark Cognition), a pioneer of computational knowledge graphs and visual no-code/low-code authoring environments for helping the world's largest companies solve their most challenging AI-based digital transformation problems. At Microsoft, Donald founded the Knowledge and Reasoning group within Bing (funded by Satya), where he created "Satori", an internet-scale knowledge graph, ingestion and analysis pipeline, and benchmark-shattering distributed graph (tuple) store with self-optimizing query engine. He co-founded a semantic computing incubation funded directly by Bill Gates, parts of which shipped as the SQL Server Semantic Engine. He created Microsoft's first internet display ad delivery system spanning multiple international data centers delivering well over 14 billion targeted ads per day and responsible for $700M in annual revenue. Donald served as Architect and Director of Engineering for numerous cutting-edge efforts while in Windows and Microsoft Research: new embedded operating system based on .NET, robotics, wearable computing, and privacy-preserving personal data services, analytics, and inference. Prior to Microsoft, Donald developed an automated loan decisioning system, cellular billing system, and AI and 3D physics engines for several video games.
