SDG VISIONARIES (IDEATHON)
INTRODUCTION OF THE EVENT:
The SDG Visionaries (Ideathon) was an exhilarating event held under IEEE Day Celebration in Chandigarh University Student Branch on 8th October 2024 at Chandigarh University, focused on fostering innovation and collaboration around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With 40 teams and 120 participants from diverse academic backgrounds, the ideathon provided a platform for creative minds to tackle pressing global challenges and propose sustainable solutions. Also the winning team was awarded with an opportunity to visit TIFR Mumbai, an outreach activity scheduled for October 14th to October 18th by IEEE Photonics Society.
EVENT OBJECTIVE:
The primary goal of the ideathon was to inspire participants to generate actionable solutions aligned with four key SDG themes:
• Clean Water and Sanitation
• Good Health and Well-being
• Affordable and Clean Energy
• Climate Action
By empowering students to brainstorm and collaborate, the event aimed to nurture a sense of responsibility toward global sustainability challenges and encourage innovative thinking.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
The event was attended by students of Chandigarh University who share a passion for sustainability and problem-solving.
Event Highlights
1. Problem Statement Reveal:
o Carefully crafted problem statements were revealed at the start of the event, focusing on real-world challenges related to the chosen SDG themes.
2. Brainstorming and Solution Development:
o Teams had one and a half hour to develop and refine their ideas. Solutions ranged from low cost water purification systems to innovative carbon capture technologies.
3. Presentation and Judging:
o Participants presented their ideas to a panel of judges, who evaluated solutions based on creativity, feasibility, alignment with the SDGs, and potential impact.
4. Winning Teams and Solutions:
o 1st Place: Team Sarem (Climate Action) for a community-driven carbon capture system.
o 2nd Place: Team Prosperity partners (Good Health and Well-being) for a digital telehealth platform.
o 3rd Place: Team Sunflower (Clean Water and Sanitation) for a low-cost filtration system.
5. Impact of the Event:
o The ideathon fostered innovation, collaboration, and a deeper understanding of how students can contribute to achieving the SDGs. Moreover it helped pitch IEEE and IEEE membership in a very effective way.
