IEEE Senior Member Grade Elevation Night
You are invited to an important event – an opportunity to apply for IEEE Senior Member grade!
All IEEE members who meet the qualifications below are encouraged to attend and meet with Senior Members, Fellows, and Honorary Members. Bring your application, obtain Senior Member references and learn more about what Senior membership means. Refreshments are complimentary.
Do you qualify as a Senior Member?
1) Candidates shall be an engineer, scientist, educator, technical executive, or originator in IEEE-designated fields (Bylaw 1-104.11)
2) Candidates shall have been in professional practice for at least ten years (see full qualifications)
3) Candidates shall have shown “significant performance” over a period of at least five of those years in professional practice.

The journey to IEEE Senior Member
Join Dr. Matthew Posner, IEEE Senior Member and 2023-2025 Chair, IEEE Photonics Society Montréal Chapter, for opening remarks on the IEEE Senior Membership Process application.
Biography:
Matthew T. Posner is the Technology and Business Development Director at Axonal Networks Inc, a Montreal start-up developing optical connectivity solutions for applications in space and data centers. He was previously Director of Workforce and Photonics Education at Optonique, the optics and photonics industry cluster in Quebec, Canada; a Process Scientist at Excelitas Technologies specializing in diffusion, oxidation, and chemical vapor deposition in silicon devices. He obtained an MEng in electronics engineering from the University of Southampton in 2013 and a Ph.D. from the Optoelectronics Research Centre, University of Southampton in 2017. He is an active science communicator and passionate about “getting science out of the lab.” He is an Optica Ambassador, and a Senior Member of Optica, SPIE, and IEEE Photonics Society, through which he supports outreach education, career development, and public engagement activities. He enjoys hiking, cycling, and cross-country skiing.
