Design Thinking and Innovation
Design Thinking is a methodology that encourages creative problem-solving by focusing on user-centered innovation. This lecture will explore fundamental concepts of Design Thinking, why it is challenging to apply effectively, and the difference between UX research and market research. Attendees will gain insights into what defines "Design-Oriented Insights" and the particular challenges faced by engineering students in driving innovation.
Biography:
The speaker graduated from the Faculty of Integrated Arts and Sciences, Tokushima University, in 1991 and joined JustSystems Corporation, working in the development department on word processor software. He earned his master's degree from Osaka Kyoiku University in 1999 and completed his doctoral studies at Kyoto University's Graduate School of Informatics in 2004. He has held academic positions at Akita Municipal Junior College of Arts and Crafts (2002), and at Muroran Institute of Technology since 2006, where he has been a professor in the field of system informatics since 2019. In April 2022, he joined Kinki University's Faculty of Informatics as a professor. His research interests include the relationship between human behavior and systems, information media, communication, and collaboration. He is a member of academic societies such as SICE, JSEE, and the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence.
