Opportunities and Career Development with IEEE
On Friday, February 21, we are hosting Ömer Melih Gül, Associate Professor at the Informatics Institute at Istanbul Technical University (ITU), and Vice Chair of the Geographic Activities Committee at IEEE Computer Society.
Prof. Gül, with extensive experience serving IEEE in various leadership roles, will deliver an invited talk on "Opportunities and Career Development with IEEE". In this session, he will discuss how we can improve our engagement with IEEE and how IEEE can support members' professional growth. This is also a great opportunity for our local representatives to exchange experiences on group management and explore new opportunities with IEEE.

Speaker information: Ömer Melih Gül, Associate Professor at the Informatics Institute at Istanbul Technical University (ITU), and Vice Chair of the Geographic Activities Committee at IEEE Computer Society.
Biography:
Omer Melih Gul (Senior Member, IEEE) received the B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara, Turkey, in 2012, 2014, and 2020, respectively. He was a Research Assistant with the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, METU. In 2022, he joined as a Postdoctoral Fellow with the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Ottawa, Canada. He has coauthored over 25 papers and two book chapters. His research interests include machine learning applications, wireless security, networking, scheduling, the IoT, UAV, robotics, and blockchain. He was awarded the third place in the 2019 Lance Stafford Larson Outstanding Student Paper Award by the IEEE Computer Society. He was also awarded the third place in the Poster Competition at the 2021 IEEE Rising Stars Global Conference. He was a recipient of the Best Paper Award at the 48th Wireless World Research Forum (WWRF) in 2022. He was awarded the 2022 IEEE MGA Young Professionals Achievement Award. On the IEEE volunteering side, after holding several IEEE volunteer roles, he has been a Region 8 (EMEA) Coordinator at the IEEE Computer Society, since April 2021
