IEEE SPS, PES & Hyderabad Section - Industry Talk on Wireless Sensing (2025 IEEE SPS Day Celebration) @ 7PM on 3rd June, 2025

I

Dear All,

As part of the 2025 IEEE SPS Day Celebrations, the IEEE Hyderabad Section and the SPS IEEE Hyderabad Section are delighted to invite you to a highly insightful Industry Talk on a cutting-edge topic:

WIRELESS SENSING - SEEING WITHOUT CAMERAS

This talk will delve into the revolutionary field of wireless sensing, an emerging technology that enables "seeing" and understanding environments without relying on traditional optical cameras. Discover how radio frequency signals, including Wi-Fi and radar, are being ingeniously utilized to perceive objects, track movement, and monitor vital signs, even through walls or in challenging visual conditions. This technology offers significant advantages in terms of privacy, robustness in diverse lighting, and non-line-of-sight capabilities, paving the way for innovations in smart homes, healthcare, industrial automation, and security.

We are honored to host:
Speaker:
Mr. N. Venkatesh
Sr. Director, Engineering - Silicon Labs

Mr. Venkatesh, with his extensive experience at Silicon Labs, will share valuable insights into the practical applications and future directions of this fascinating technology. This is an unparalleled opportunity for researchers, engineers, students, and professionals interested in signal processing, IoT, AI, and embedded systems to learn from an industry expert.

Date: 3rd June 2025

🧭 About the Session:

This session explores the fascinating field of Wireless Sensing — the ability to determine human presence, activity, and health-related events in an environment purely by observing changes in wireless signals. Focusing specifically on Wi-Fi-based sensing, the talk will explain how measurements on received Wi-Fi signals can be combined with machine learning to detect activities such as presence, movement, falls, and even subtle metrics like breathing and heart rate.

The session will also provide an accessible introduction to key physical layer wireless communication concepts that underpin these sensing capabilities, helping participants understand the foundational principles involved.

Finally, the talk will cover the emerging IEEE 802.11bf standard, which aims to bring interoperability and standardization to this rapidly growing market, enabling consistent and scalable solutions for wireless sensing across devices and applications.

Join us to uncover how wireless signals are not just for communication — but also powerful tools for intelligent sensing and safety.
