AutoCAD Competition – Precision, Creativity & Learning at Pulse 25’
The AutoCAD Competition, held on April 23 from 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM in the A Block Computer Lab, emerged as one of the show-stealer activities of Pulse 25’ and a standout highlight of the Spring Student Week (SP25) at COMSATS University Lahore.
Blending technical skill, design precision, and creative thinking, the competition gave students a chance to demonstrate their expertise in one of the most widely used design tools in engineering—AutoCAD. The event was not only a contest but also a learning platform, where students enhanced their skills with the guidance of experienced faculty members.
Participation & Enthusiasm
-
Over 10 enthusiastic students from various academic levels participated in the challenge, each bringing their own design approach and technical creativity.
-
Despite being a niche technical event, the excitement among participants was contagious, and the audience of fellow students and faculty added to the lively atmosphere.
-
The focused yet collaborative environment encouraged peer learning and idea exchange throughout the competition.
The Challenge – 2D & 3D House Design
The competition tested students’ command over AutoCAD through two core tasks:
-
2D House Structure:
Participants started with a detailed 2D floor plan of a house, applying principles of scale, alignment, and spatial planning. Accuracy in dimensions, clarity in layout, and professional presentation were key evaluation points. -
3D House Model:
Moving beyond the flat layout, participants transformed their 2D designs into 3D architectural models. This stage allowed them to showcase their creativity in bringing realistic shapes, perspectives, and details into their work—turning blueprints into virtual structures.
Faculty Guidance & Skill Development
One of the defining features of the competition was active faculty engagement. Professors from the department visited the lab to:
-
Provide technical tips on efficient AutoCAD commands and shortcuts.
-
Share real-world architectural and engineering insights to improve design realism.
-
Motivate participants to aim for professional-grade designs, simulating industry standards.
Students not only competed but also gained valuable knowledge, enhancing both their technical proficiency and design thinking skills.
Why It Was a Highlight of SP25
-
⚡ Hands-On Learning: Unlike theoretical classes, this was an applied, real-time design challenge.
-
🏆 Skill-Based Competition: A perfect blend of competition and learning.
-
🏠 Practical Relevance: The task of designing a house resonated with real engineering and architectural practices.
-
👥 Community Engagement: Faculty-student interaction created a strong learning environment.
Lasting Impact
By the end of the event, participants had professionally crafted 2D and 3D house structures—designs they could proudly add to their portfolios. The competition succeeded in its goal of fostering creativity, technical skill, and practical application among students.
The AutoCAD Competition wasn’t just another segment of Pulse 25’—it was a knowledge-rich, skill-sharpening, and immensely enjoyable experience that left students motivated to push their design abilities even further.
