Software developers and content creators are increasingly using generative AI tools such as CoPilot, Claude & ChatGPT to develop their software products, AI applications or end-products. The 2024 EU AI Act will have a global impact on software development and its deployment and distribution, much like the EU’s 2018 GDPR ended up having a global impact on the treatment of data privacy. The EU AI Act sets global benchmarks and a legal framework for responsible AI use. The Act assigns AI applications to four risk levels (unacceptable, high, limited, & minimal) and covers classification, requirements and obligations.  Apart from some exceptions, full compliance is expected by August 2026 with significant violation fines of up to €35 million or 7% of global annual turnover.

Biography:

Robert Slaviero is the Managing Director of Analog Devices Australia Pty Ltd, which specialises in the development of embedded and Digital Signal Processing (DSP) software with over 50 employees. He is also the Licensing Director for Analog Devices Inc, a multinational
organisation, with headquarters in Boston, specialising in the design and manufacture of semiconductors, software and systems, with approximately 25,000 staff and an annual revenue of approximately US$11B. Robert has over 40 years of experience in the design and management of electronics, communications, computer and software projects. He has academic qualifications in engineering, business and law and has a deep understanding of technology, AI, software licensing, legal and intellectual property issues.
