I am pleased to inform you all that IEEE UP Section & the Department of
Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur jointly is
organizing a lecture as following details.


Speaker : Dr. Ritwik Majumder, ABB Corporate Research, Sweden
Title : DC GRID AND MICROGRID: OPERATION AND CONTROL

Abstract:

The smart grid initiative will have significant influence both in
transmission and distribution level. In this seminar two important
applications of voltage source converter (VSC) will be discussed. First the
use of VSC in HVDC lightR will be discussed starting from a point to point
link operation to a DC grid. The benefits of the HVDC technology are
highlighted with basic components, control techniques and system operations.
In the second part of the presentation Microgrid will be considered. The
aspects of system stability and different stability improvement methods in a
microgrid scenario will be discussed. While stability problems are
instigated by different factors in various types of microgrids, efficacy of
the stability improvement methods may vary largely depending on the
application and the system scenarios.


About the Speaker:

Dr Ritwik Majumder is working in ABB Corporate Research, Sweden. He
received his Ph.D from Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane,
Australia. From 2004 to 2007, he worked with Siemens and ABB Corporate
Research Centre, India. His interests are in Power Systems dynamics,
Distributed Generation and Power Electronics Applications.
