The Women in Power Engineering (WIPE-2018) is an IEEE PES Bangalore Chapter initiative to create the awareness and to foster the careers, connections and talent of women in the power industry. This workshop facilitates to achieve their full potential to become the leaders of the future. WIPE focuses to enable and energize women to increase the participation, contribution and success of women in power engineering.  
WiPE provides a great opportunity for women professionals from academics, industry, research organizations, entrepreneurs, B.Tech & M.Tech student and PhD Scholars to network with successful women in field of power and energy. It is meant to provide a platform for networking and share the issues and challenges faced by women professional. The WIPE is an interactive workshop devoted to the discussion and the interchange of new developments and ideas in Power and Energy

 

IEEE-PES & IAS joint student branch chapter [PE31/IA34-SBC63931] of Amrita School of Engineering (ASE), Bengaluru (Blr) on 28/07/2018 from 9:30 am to 4.30 pm in Krishna Hall of Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru hosted a workshop WiPE(Women in Power Engineering).

 

The workshop commenced with a lamp lighting ceremony by

  • IEEE-PES chair Bangalore chapter - Mr Suresh- POSOCO
  • IEEE-PES chair - 2017 Bangalore chapter - Mr Sethuraman Ganeshan- ABB
  • IEEE-PES chair - 2016 Bangalore chapter - Mr Kannan- PRDC
  • Chief Guest – Mrs Padmasri Krishnamurthy- ABB

 

Followed by an invocation song by Ms.Sarasvati, PG Scholar. The IEEE PES EXECOM member and mentor of IEEE-PES & IAS-ASE Blr joint student branch chapter, Dr. K. Deepa formally welcomed the gathering.

 

Mr. Suresh, IEEE-PES chair Bangalore chapter introduced the foundation of IEEE to the gathering. His talk shed light on the benefits of joining IEEE and the importance of conferences being conducted all over the nation. He concluded his talk by exhilarating the gathering to make IEEE prosper to much greater heights.

 

The Workshop started with the talk from chief guest of the day Mrs. Padmasri Krishnamurthy, the Vice President of BU - Distribution Solutions at ABB Ltd. She emphasized the necessity and utilization of data in day to day life of a person. Nevertheless, she addressed many relevant innovative ideas being developed in the field of data communication. Her talk threw light on the ease of communication because of the sufficient availability of data at cheaper and affordable costs. She briefed how SCADA systems, machine learning, automation and peer to peer kind of block chain training is contributing to digitalization. She put forth her views on the topics of digitization.   

 

Mr. Sethuraman Ganesan, IEEE-PES chair - 2017 Bangalore chapter then addressed the vote of thanks.

 

The second speaker of the day was Mrs. Shanti, GM-TCE, Bengaluru. She spoke on the emerging areas in the power sector which included smart grids, micro grids and electric vehicles. The speaker explained the concept of an ideal grid and the objectives of a smart city mission and shared her views on the applications of home automation and concluded her talk by discussing the features of micro grids and the increase in efficiency by the usage of renewable power.

 

 This was followed by a tea break and a photo session with the dignitaries.

Mridula Chhetri, the Founder CEO at Inmovidu Technologies Pvt Limited shared her experiences and her difficulties as an entrepreneur. Her talk focused on women empowerment and the need of planning and belief in oneself to overcome the difficulties in the journey of life. She narrated her own experiences of dealing complex problems with innovative solutions. She enlightened the basic idea and mission of establishment of her company. Furthermore to add, she expressed her contribution towards ‘Inmovidu Technologies’ which focuses on the welfare and the security of the employed ladies with regards to learning any field of art. She exhibited a short video on the importance of observation which stirred the crowd with admiration

There was a subsequent lunch break to the talk.

 

Mrs. Praveena Kandula was the fourth speaker of the day. She appraised the gathering on stress management. She expounded the concept of stress through a roller coaster and a water bottle scenario. By the means of a human function curve, she tried to explain the decline in the performance due to increased stress in an individual. She described the various stress related diseases and techniques to tackle them. In conclusion, she stimulated the gathering with an origami session to manage stress.

 

The final speaker of the day was Dr. K.Uma Rao, a Professor at RV College of Engineering, Bangalore. She elaborated the significance of time management and discussed the benefits. She further elucidated the obstacles to effective time management and the prioritization of goals. By the usage of relevant examples of time management, she rose the spirits of the gathering. She concluded her talk by emphasizing the need to organize the tasks.

 

The workshop culminated with a vote of thanks by Dr. K. Deepa thanking the speakers and the participants.

 

This was a great opportunity for women professionals from academics, industry, research organizations, entrepreneurs and students to network with successful women in the field of power and energy. WiPE-2018 provided a platform for networking and share the issues and challenges faced by women professional.
