Clean and Efficient Dynamic Provisioning in Green Cloud Data Centers

Jing Bi, Ph.D. & Associate Professor

School of Software Engineering, Faculty of Information Technology, Beijing University of Technology, Beijing, China

Place: ECEC 202

Time: 2pm, December 18, 2018

Cloud computing is growingly used by companies, governments and organizations. It is usually implemented in data centers where there are millions of servers and cooling facilities. An increasing number of users send their tasks to large-scale green cloud data centers (GCDCs) (e.g., Amazon and Google), and this significantly increases the amount of energy consumption. This talk introduces some emerging progress made in this field and emerging challenges on how to realize various clean and efficient dynamic provisioning methods for applications in GCDCs, including: (1) workload prediction for efficiency dynamic resource provisioning; (2) economic electric power network and workload scheduling for profit maximization; an d (3) open research problems, directions and outlooks for future studies.

Jing Bi received her B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from Northeastern University, Shenyang, China.
