Nebraska’s Public Power District’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and Meter Data Management (MDM) Technology Project
David Dubowsky will discuss Nebraska Public Power District’s recent implementation of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) that includes new advanced metering technology providing 15-minute interval usage data, a two-way meshed radio communications network, and a Meter Data Management (MDM) system for storing the large quantity of data provided by the new metering equipment. This new AMI and MDM technology is fully integrated with NPPD’s Customer Information System (CIS), Outage Management System (OMS), and existing Automated Meter Reading (AMR) power line carrier system. The data collected from this new technology will also be integrated with analytic tools to mine the data. The new AMI and MDM technology enables NPPD to transform customer service, reduce distribution operating costs, and make more informed asset investment and operating decisions.
