IEEE UIT Computer Society initiated and organized an event named IEEE SpectrumX with a motive to enhance the technical knowledge of students and encourage them to develop reading habits by providing them an opportunity of participating in a technical presentation competition.

IEEE Spectrum X was is based on IEEE spectrum magazine. The idea behind this event is to spread the awareness and benefits of IEEE spectrum magazine and enhance the reading habits of the students. IEEE spectrum is flagship magazine and website of the IEEE, its main purpose is to keep its members and other student and professionals up to date about latest and major trends and developments in technology, engineering, and science.

This event was about providing the students a platform where they can come up with their knowledge and presentation work on any of the technology related article from IEEE spectrum magazine, IEEE computer magazine and IEEE power & energy magazine. We had two rounds for this competition. In 1st round, the students selected their article regarding their field and interest and submitted the abstract for evaluation round. Then after the evaluation of abstracts by our judges, the qualified groups were informed via email to participate in final round.

For the evaluation of abstracts and final presentation, rubric were designed by our respected judges. We got 21 abstracts and 12 of them were qualified to participate in Final presentation round.

The criteria for the participation was:

• Students had to select any article of their interest from the IEEE spectrum magazine, IEEE Computer Magazine and IEEE Power and Energy Magazine of year 2012 to 2018.
• Individual participation wasn’t allowed, group to have minimum 2 and maximum 3 students.
• No abstracts were considered after the first round which was abstract submission.
• Abstract had to be submitted as a PDF or DOC file online through Google form.
• Students had to give their final presentation (using power point or any other software) regarding their selected article and research work on 15th-June-2019.
• Winner were selected as per the best presentation among all by neutral judgment.
• There was one winner and two runner ups.
• Non-IEEE members can also participate in this competition.
• The participation fee for each group was 300 PKR.

We had 7 judges who evaluated the abstracts and final presentations according to the designed rubric. 3 of the 7 judges are IEEE members.

The event was successfully conducted on 15^th of June, 2019. A lunch break for participants and judges was also setup before closing ceremony. Whereas, in closing ceremony, the students were presented with certificates of participation and the winners and runner ups were awarded with shields and certificates and shields were also distributed to the organizing committee and the judges.
