Second Romanian Summer School of Antennas, Propagation, and RFID Applications
The 2nd Summer School of Antennas, Propagation, and RFID Applications was organized by the Romanian IEEE AP-S/RFID Jt Chapter.
The Summer School was held at University Politehnica of Timisoara on August 28 and 29, 2019.

Welcome messages were given by Prof. Marius Otesteanu, Vice-Rector of University Politehnica of Timisoara, Prof. Florin Alexa, Dean of the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Professional Activities Chair of the IEEE Romania Section, Assoc. prof. Lucian Toma, Vice-President of the IEEE Romania Section, and Prof. Razvan Tamas, Chair of the IEEE AP-S / RFID Joint Chapter.
The topics included:
- Ultra-wide band antennas
- Beamforming and MIMO applications
- Radio network planning
- Periodic structures and RFID applications
- Electromagnetic pollution
- Antennas for EME communications
- Hands-on workshops on SDR applications
The second day of the event included a visit at Nokia Timisoara.
Twenty-three students from the main technical universities in Romania attended the Summer School.
Three prizes were awarded to the students, co-sponsored by IEEE AP-S and University Politehnica of Timisoara:
1. The "Prof. Tiberiu Muresan" prize, consisting of a tablet, was awarded to Cosmin Danisor, Ph.D. student with University Politehnica of Bucharest, IEEE Graduate Student Member.
2. The "Prof. Remus Radulet" prize, consisting of a SDR receiver, was awarded to Andreea Constantin, Ph.D. student with University Politehnica of Bucharest, IEEE Graduate Student Member.
3. The "Prof. Plautius Andronescu" prize, consisting of a SDR receiver, was awarded to Mariana Galbiaza, M.Sc. student with Constanta Maritime University, IEEE Graduate Student Member.
Attendance certificates were delivered to all participants.
