Image processing using web assembly, the most disruptive web technology in current times.


Current browsers have sophisticated execution environments for Javascript, and fast rendering engines. With the advent of HTML5, they accept digital cameras, and they can process, in real time, video streaming between browsers, allowing instant communications.  In addition, introduction of the low-level virtual machine (LLVM) and "stack-machines" that execute in browsers, revamped all web-based image-processing technologies. This allow the image-processing libraries to be delivered within regular web pages, as optimized scripts that execute in browser, with significant speed gains when compared to traditional Javascript engines.  This approach made the browser a very suitable platform to deliver web applications with heavy image processing tasks, that execute at native speeds. For example, it is a disruptive change in gaming technology. In this webinar, all these aspects will be covered, to reveal the audience the huge potential of this arising technology.

Image processing in browsers using web assembly

Carlos will introduce the audience the state-of-the-art of image processing in browsers. He will show a roadmap, starting from developments in last decade, and ending in web assembly, a new execution model for Javascript, that is so heavily optimized that can reach more speed that equivalent C++ compiled code in the same platform.

Biography:

He is a fulltime Research Professor in CINAPTIC (Center for Applied Research of Information and Communication Technologies), at Universidad Tecnológica Nacional, Facultad Regional Resistencia. He has a degree in Electrical Mechanical Engineering and is currently VP of IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, Argentina Chapter, with interests in A.I., Business Intelligence, Control Systems, Web and Mobile development and Imagery Processing in resource-constrained devices.
