The key objective of the orientation program was:

-To make the transition from school to university smooth for new students.

-Enable them to get to know different societies under IEEE SB VIT Chennai and their student and faculty coordinators.

-Expose them to ways of gainfully using their new found opportunities.

 

The orientation program for the newly admitted undergraduate students was organized on 24th July, 2019.

The Chief Guest of the program Prasanth Mohan, the founding Chair of IEEEXtreme Public Relation Committee addressed the newly joined students. In his address to the freshers, he emphasized on the importance of being part of a club in college life. He explained the students about his journey through IEEE from cluelessly getting his student membership to what he is now and about the many benefits of being a part of a society.

A quick summary of the events organized in the academic year 2017-18 was presented by the chair of the student branch, Rakesh Acharya which was continued by the student branch counsellor Dr.Vydeki.D . Refreshments were arranged for all the students who turned up for the session. All the societies were given 10 minutes to present their report for the freshers to understand their area of work and culture. They also shared their event calendar for the academic year.

Students who came up with doubts and queries were given attractive IEEE goodies in order to make the session more interactive.

Power electronics society was introduced by Prof.Sridevi . She gave a rough idea about the plan for the academic year and her expectations from the society’s members.

 

Parul, Chair -Women in engineering VIT Chennai made the session more interesting by having small activities during her presentation. She also shared her experience of attending a conference in Nepal.

 

The faculty and the student coordinator of Robotics and automation society Prof.Suchetha and Siva Shankar respectively briefed the students about the projects they have been working on and the activities and contests they have taken part in.

 

Students of signal processing society had a video presentation of their research work and the conferences they have attended so far.

 

Last but not the least, Computer societies work was presented by its general secretary Adithya Narayanan. He also explained the three projects they were working on bone conduction, brain computer interface and pizza vending machine.

 

Before winding up, students were asked to fill a google form stating which society they were willing to join in order to get a rough count of interested students and the list was forwarded to the respective societies.

 

The intense and precisely-planned orientation program ended at 1:30pm on the same day.
