Telecommunications Heritage In Australia - A Sustainable Approach
Communication in Australia goes back for thousands of years given the indigenous peoples cultural heritage. In more modern times with the discovery of electricity, electro- magnetism and radio, telecommunications advances have been rapid and continuous. In fact the pace is so fast that many inventions that were modern (it seems only yesterday) have now passed into history and if we are diligent into heritage collections. The PMG, Telecom Australia and Telstra maintained a historical collection of a very wide range of telecommunication items, artefacts, technology dating from the 1850's. The very large collection survived the years with the assistance of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer support. This is the story of how "Telstra's Heritage - Australia's Heritage" is being preserved to ensure the ongoing survival of the collection in a sustainable way.
