Course Descriptions:

Generator 101: Basics and Application - 1 PDH (60 minutes)

In this course we will discuss the why and how of generator sets. First, we will look at the building blocks of Generators and Backup power systems. Then we will consider the pros and cons of Diesel and Gas as fuel for the generators, Lastly we will explore which codes and standards drive the need for generator sets.

Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) 101: Basics - 1 PDH (60 minutes)

Automatic transfer switches allow the loads to be fed from either the Utility or backup power sources as its most common use case. In this course we will dive into the basics of automatic transfer switches, their purpose, associated Codes and Standards, types of ATS, and typical installations. This course also touches on ATS controllers, withstand ratings, and power switching methods.

Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) 102: Withstand Ratings and Selective Coordination Implications - 1 PDH (60 minutes)

Automatic transfer switches are often required to withstand a fault and connect the load to an emergency generator source afterwards. Due to selective coordination, some switches may be subject to a fault current for an extended period. In this course we will dive into the basics of both and explore how we can optimize the design for safety, economy, and performance.

Paralleling 102: Paralleling Controls, Sequence of Operation and Configurations - 1 PDH (60 minutes)

In the second part of our basic paralleling course, we will explore how the building blocks of a paralleled system can be managed in either a generator mounted controller or within a master control section. We will explore different paralleling controller configurations, system design, sequence of operations. We will also touch on load management using either feeder breakers or automatic transfer switches.

Generator Enclosure Basics, Considerations, and Options -  1 PDH (60 minutes)

Enclosures can be a critical component of your backup power system. In this presentation, we explore the basic properties, types, and optional components of a generator enclosure. We will also look at the codes and standards that guide both the design and installation of enclosures.

Generator Diesel Tank Basics, Considerations, and Options - 1 PDH (60 minutes)

Diesel fuel tanks serve as the source of stored energy on many generator sets. In this presentation, we explore the basic properties, types, and optional components of a diesel tank. We will also look at the codes and standards that guide both the design and installation of diesel fuel tanks.
