IEEE Webinar DC Traction Power substation design

Most mass transit rail systems operate using high power DC sources to power the operating trains carrying passengers. The DC power is supplied by what are called DC Traction Power Substations (TPSS). These specialised substations have the necessary equipment to safely and reliably convert incoming AC power into outgoing DC power to feed the rail system. This webinar discusses the basic power equipment elements, applicable industry standards as well as industry practices applied to DC Traction Power Substations found across North America with a focus on Light Rail DC Traction Power Substations. This topic is interesting as it provides a basic understanding of the design behind the DC power supply for Light rail trains as more projects are being design and built in Canada and around the world.

 "Fine Print"

  • The webinar is free for active IEEE members.
  • There is a $5 registration fee for people who are not active IEEE members.
    • The fee must be paid in advance through the registration process below (credit card through PayPal) in order to receive the link to the webinar.
    • Upon successful payment of the fee, you will receive 2 emails: one from with title "IEEE vTools Reservation Confirmation," and a second from with title "Your payment to The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc." Both emails are required to ensure your payment was successfully processed.
    • Incomplete non-member registrations (payment not received) will be deleted.
  • A link to the WebEx registration will be sent to the email address you provided during this vTools registration, on September 20th, by "IEEE Northern Alberta".  Please double check the spelling of your email address when registering.
