Call to Participate as a Reference for IEEE Region 4 Senior Member Elevation Candidates

Dear IEEE Region 4 Senior Members and Fellows:

The IEEE Region 4 Industry Engagement Committee and IEEE Region 4 Membership Development Committee are holding a virtual meeting on October 11, 2021, 7pm to 8pm central to assist in elevating members in your Section to the grade of Senior Member.  We could use your help. 

We are seeking Senior IEEE members and Fellows to review applications and resumes prior to or during this meeting, ask questions of the candidates during the meeting and to write references after the meeting. By elevating fellow members to the grade of Senior Member, we are able to recognize the individuals' significant accomplishments. In addition, individuals that become Senior Members are significantly more likely to retain their IEEE memberships.

Many IEEE members meet the requirements for the Senior Member grade, but have not  gone through the process to be recognized.  One challenge is that a candidate needs three references from IEEE members of Senior Member grade or higher.  If you are willing to participate as a reference provider for Senior Member candidates, please register for the event or let me know by e-mail: j.riess@ieee.org.

If you choose to volunteer, a candidate's resume and other documentation will be provided to you prior to the meeting.  This will allow you to become familiar with the candidate's work history and qualifications.  During the virtual meeting, you will be able to talk with the candidate and then afterwards work on completing the references required for the Senior Member application.      

This meeting will be held with Webex. The breakout room feature of this platform will allow a candidate and assigned reference providers to ask questions so the candidates can explain how their experience meets the requirements for Senior Member Elevation.  

The process for a reference provider involves providing your IEEE member ID to the candidate so they can enter you as their reference provider.  They will then submit their application.   You will then receive an email which links to a web portal in which you can complete writing the reference.
