Brief description:
On 10th August 2021, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering associated with the IEEE Information Theory Society SEC Student Branch Chapter conducted an inaugural program for its SEC Student Branch. The session started at 10 am. The host, Akshaya K, started with an introductory speech. The event began with the prayer song followed by virtual lamp lighting.
Then Dr.B.Latha, Head of the Department, Computer Science Engineering, Sri Sairam Engineering College, gave a welcome address. She spoke about what IEEE society is, and why we are making this society. She also explained how beneficial it is. Dr.K.Porkumaran, Director, Sri Sairam Group of Institutions, gave an Inaugural Address. He spoke about how to organize various events in IEEE society. He explained about the IEEE Xtreme event and how beneficial the participation certificate is.
Dr.S.Brindha, IEEE SB Counsellor Sairam, IEEE Captain, gave Introduction to IEEE. She described everything about IEEE, what is ITS society from scratch. Also spoke about magazines, newsletters, webinars, and how they are available free of cost for members. She also talked about funding project schemes and other benefits. She encouraged students to join the IEEE ITS student branch society to enjoy the membership benefits.
Then the hosting handover to Srinidhi. She welcomed our chief guest with a quick introduction. Dr.V.Gomathi, Chairman, IEEE Information Theory Society, IEEE Madras Section. She spoke about her publication and how she collaborated with a top company. She also talked about how publications are valuable for student careers. She shared her experience in Artificial intelligence.
Then we had a Q and A session between the students and our chief guest, where she clarified the doubts.Then Buvana and Chandrasekaran shared their experience as part of a student member of ITS society and they also encouraged the other students to take the membership. Finally, the event concluded with a vote of thanks by Venkatesh, chair of IEEE ITS Society Student Branch chapter.

Dr. V Gomathi
Dr. V. Gomathi did her UG degree at TCE, Madurai during 1997 and M.Tech CSE from IIT Madras, Chennai during 2005. She pursued her Ph.D. in 2011 from Anna University Chennai. She has more than 22 years of teaching and research experience in various roles at the National Engineering College, Kovilpatti, Tamil Nadu. She is at present working as a Professor and Head of the CSE Department. Her area of expertise is Video surveillance, image processing, soft computing, and deep learning. She has published more than 25 research articles. She had completed 6 R&D-funded projects funded by DST, AICTE, IEEE(EPICS), IE(I), NVIDIA, and TNSCST. She has signed MoUs with Industries for Collaborative research and product development activities at NEC. She is an active speaker and delivered more than 60 technical sessions with hands-on practice sessions. Under her able guidance, 1 Ph.D. scholar was awarded. 1 awaiting viva and 7 more are pursuing. She has visited Indonesia and China and has a good rapport with the USA, Portugal, and Australian Professors.
