Founded in 1948, CPI is a global manufacturer of electronic components and subsystems focused primarily on communications and defense markets. The company develops, manufactures, and globally distributes innovative and reliable technology solutions used in the generation, amplification, transmission, and reception of microwave signals for commercial and military applications. CPI serves customers in the communications, defense, medical, industrial, and scientific markets.
The Satcom & Medical Products Division of CPI is located in Georgetown, Ontario. This presentation introduces some of the CPI products, basic technical background, and the application of High Voltage for such medical and Satcom products.

Mahdi Khanali of CPI
Introduction to CPI’s Satcom & Medical Products
Biography:
Dr. Khanali earned his PhD degree from the University of Waterloo, Canada in 2017 in high voltage and power conversion systems. Prior to his PhD, he worked in several companies since 2006 on hydro power plants design, high voltage transformer design and condition monitoring of high voltage high power equipment. Mahdi began his career in CPI Canada as a product development engineer in 2017 where he has been a key leader in new high voltage development for Medical X-ray generators. In 2021, Dr. Khanali formed a new High Voltage Center of Excellence responsible for high voltage designs and expertise across all of Satellite Communication and Medical Products of CPI SMP, based out of the Georgetown, ON facility. Mahdi has several international papers on SF6 circuit-breakers, electrical insulation systems under HV HF stress, transformer fault prediction, methods of partial discharge detection and multi-physics EHD MHD EM simulation.
