Richmond IAS + YP Technical Talk: VT Senior Design Program - Campus Microgrid Emergency Management System
The Richmond IAS in partnership with the YP would like to present a technical talk prior to the Slingshot Soical. This will be a hybrid event with a in-person opportunity at Hack.RVA + virtual. Event Notes: All presenters will be virtual and in-person participants can walk to the following event at Slingshot.
Summary:
This presentation will detail Virginia Tech’s ECE 4806 Major Design Experience team that worked with Wiley|Wilson for the past year to design a microgrid emergency management system located in Blacksburg, Virginia on Virginia Tech's campus. Research was completed on the specific battery type to utilize in the battery storage system, and the battery storage system was then implemented into the overall microgrid system. The emergency management system supplies power to a main community center with electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, UPS workstations, and server racks, and it can supply power independently from the main power grid. The overall project goals were to achieve greater energy independence, reduce environmental impacts, and reduce overall electricity costs.
