RWU Computer Science Senior Presentation

You are invited to attend the Roger Williams University Computer Science Senior Design Team presentations of their year-long capstone project status.  Presentations will begin at 2:15 and each is about 25-30 minutes in length.  The order of presentations is listed below (times are approximate) and a Zoom link is provided for remote access.

2:20 Air Quality Visualization: In this project, the student team will explore use of publicly available data to visualize air quality in southern New England as near as real time as possible.  This will require extraction of data from on-line sources, interpolation between air quality monitoring sites, and display of the results.  If possible, displays also will include information such as major air quality emission sources (industry, highways) and other relevant information.  The results potentially will aid in the design of an improved air quality monitoring network in southern New England.

2:45 Motion Fusion (phase 3): Develop an interactive presentation based on using 3D cameras and construction project development software.  This project is a continuation of a project begun in two years ago.  Work continues on developing 3D visualizations of building/construction projects without the need for VR headsets.

3:10 Drive (phase 2): A proof of concept in determining if it is possible to remotely access and direct where a smart phone camera should be pointing.

3:35 Air Sensor Monitoring Law Building: The students will use machine learning for predicting temperature and humidity in a given building. Live data is still being collected and the historic data is available for the past year. The live and historic data can be accessed through an API. The students will use the historic data for creating a prediction model. The team will also design and develop a mobile app for the presentation of the data and analytics. This is anticipated as a multi-year effort.

4:00 Combining Unity and Revit: The goal is to look at the Unity simulation software and combine it with Revit construction design software.  The goal is to take the design features of Revit, combine them with the simulation features of Unity to give the user the ability to visualize constructions efforts beyond the 3D capabilities of either software package on their own

4:25 Whereabouts (phase 2): A game linking GPS, photographs, and paper maps to develop map reading skills and travel entertainment.  The first year developed some processes which can be reused. Gamification of the system and subsequent use as an answer to the age-old question “are we there yet?” It can also be used as a training aid in correlating maps, GPS, and pictures for outdoor enthusiasts.
