Frequency-selective surfaces (FSSs) are arrays of periodic structures, providing filtering properties of the incident electromagnetic waves. FSSs have been intensely studied in the last five decades for their wide applications from microwave to terahertz frequencies. FSSs have been applied in antenna radomes, reconfigurable antennas, polarization converters, intelligent walls, radar cross-section reduction, etc. In this talk, we will introduce the fundamental concepts of FSSs and present the basic principles governing the operation of this type of structures, and methods of analysis. Practical examples will be finally provided to demonstrate the performance of the designed FSSs with simulation and measurement results.
