A Webinar on "Cyber Security issues in multi cloud environment and its protection" on 12th Nov 2022 at 6:30 PM onwards in association with SAC, LMAG, CS, CIS/GRSS Jt Chapter.

Abstract:

Cloud security is a discipline of cyber security dedicated to securing cloud computing systems.  This includes keeping data private and safe across online-based infrastructure, applications, and platforms. It is a collection of procedures and technologies involving the cloud service providers and the clients that use them to address external and internal threats to business security.

Cloud providers host services on their servers through always-on connections. Since their business relies on customer trust, cloud security methods are used to keep client data private and safely stored. However, cloud security also partially rests in the client's hands as well. Understanding both facets is pivotal to a successful cloud security solution.

At its core, cloud security is composed of the following categories:

  • Infrastructure security
  • Data security
  • Identity and access management (IAM)
  • Governance (policies on threat prevention, detection, and mitigation)
  • Data retention (DR) and business continuity (BC) planning
  • Legal compliance

As enterprises embrace cloud services and move toward optimizing their operational approach, new challenges arise when balancing productivity levels and security. While more modern technologies help organizations advance capabilities outside the confines of on-premise infrastructure, transitioning primarily to cloud-based environments can have several implications if not done securely.

Striking the right balance requires an understanding of how modern-day enterprises can benefit from the use of interconnected cloud technologies while deploying the best cloud security practices.

Bio data of Speaker: Sri. Chandra Sekhar,

Brief Bio  of C Chandrasekhara Reddy, Scientist-G, Group Director, NRSC/ISRO (Retd), received his  B. Tech from Nagarjuna University in 1986 in Electronics and Communications Engineering with Distinction and he is  class topper.  Received his  MS in Software Systems from BITS, PILANI with distinction in 1997.Joined SHAR, ISRO in 1987, where he designed and developed Software for Radars to track all the launch vehicles.  Designed and Developed Software for Health monitoring   of   Launch Vehicle motors during the Launch. He moved to NRSC in 1993 and worked till Aug, 2022.He retired as Group Director, in Scientist 'G' grade. Established the Campus Network for NRSC, Balanagar to provide email and Internet services in 1997 and ensured its 24 x 7 availability.

Worked as Executive Director for Institute of Electronic Governance (IEG) under Information Technology and Communications Dept. (IT&C) Govt. of Andhra Pradesh in 2005-2006 on deputation. Implemented multifaceted e-governance solutions and worked towards self-sustenance of IEG which had a strength of about 800 employees under IT&C Dept. Govt. of AP in 2005-2006.He was Technical Committee Member for Major Projects of IT&C Dept. Govt. of AP from 2007 to 2009. He was an advisor in CMO and Technical Committee member   for the iris based Ration Card Project from 2007 to 2009. The successful implementation of this project resulted in savings of around Rs 1000 crore per annum to the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh. As this project was successful, the iris technology was adopted in Adhar card project by Govt. of India.

As IT Infrastructure focal point, designed and implemented BHUVAN portal, which was launched in August 2009. Later implemented Bhuvan Scaleup IT Infrastructure as well. Established 1000  Sq. Mts State of the Art Data Center at Shadnagar Campus with the centralized tiered Storage Area Network for Integrated Multi Mission Ground Segment for earth Observation Satellites (IMGEOS).  Ensured the availability of IT infrastructure for all the IRS Satellites launched after 2010 at the IMGEOS Data Center, enabling  supply of Emergency Data Products with in one Hour of Data Acquisition. Conceived and conceptualized an Event monitoring and control mechanism for IMGEOS to monitor the data products generation in the production chain. In the process of adopting latest technologies, designed and implemented on-premise private cloud   to process RISAT data   and on-premise public cloud to meet the Infrastructure requirements to disseminate the data products, Bhoonodhi etc in the Data Center in 2018. The cloud is being extended to adopt containerisation. The resource optimization has increased by 50 %, because of  the cloud technology.  Contributed in the design and implementation of IT Infrastructure for the Disaster Management Support Programme of Minnistry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India.  Extended the Data Center at  NRSC/ISRO Shadnagar Campus by another 2000 Sq. Mts.  Also involved in establishing Data Centers for   Govt. of AP at Hyderabad, DRDO and  NGRI. Established cloud based  secure thin client  remote access  system at the Outreach Facility in Jeedimetla campus for remote sensing data analysis.  Conceptualized, proposed and implemented a secure overlay Network for more than 3000 nodes and provided  the services at nine campuses of NRSC. He converged services such as  mail, video, telepresence, audio and chat, which  are being provided to the users. Implemented Network based Unified Communications converged  services  across all the Campuses of NRSC, which was used extensively during Covid-19 period.  In the process removed all traditional telephone exchanges. As Information Security Officer of NRSC for about 15 years, ensured the security of IT Infrastructure and data.  As a  member of inter-center  IT security committee for ISRO, participated in the committee meetings and contributed in providing detailed recommendations, guidelines, operational procedures, tools and techniques to improve the IT security in ISRO Centers / Units and implemented in one of the Centres of ISRO. Implemented Security Operations and Network Operations Center at Shadnagar for NRSC/ISRO (9 Locations Across India) including SIEM/SOAR. As a Chairman, Flight Readiness Review Committee for Real Time Networks, ensuring the readiness of Ground Segment Infrastructure at SHAR for LVM3 (Launch Vehicle Mark 3), PSLV and SSLV Launches and also Post Flight Analysis. In his illustrious career, he has been bestowed with ISRO Team Excellence awards for IMGEOS and Bhuvan projects.
