Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 – Reflections of a Life Member

In June 1953 our speaker attended the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, representing the Province of BC as a member of a contingent of 12 Sea Cadets. The 16-year-old cadets sailed from Halifax on the aircraft carrier HMCS Magnificent.  The presentation will feature images and a video with Sea Cadet Zanon on Coronation Day in London; and the Naval Review at Portsmouth on the aircraft carrier HMCS Magnificent.

Biography:

Carl’s experience as a Sea Cadet led him to join the University Naval Training Division while studying Electrical Engineering at UBC. He was commissioned as a sub-lieutenant in 1958. Carl graduated from UBC's EE class in 1959.  After graduation, Carl’s career encompassed a number of engineering positions in electrical engineering, consulting, and senior management. Over the course of his career, Carl worked in five provinces and also the US. After retiring in 2001, he entered the consulting field with the Business Development Bank of Canada.  He applied concepts from his co-authored manual "Advancing Production Management with Standard Cost and Operational Analysis”  In addition, he was an instructor at Okanagan College, presenting Situational Leadership© courses from 2002 to 2016.

Carl’s connection with the IEEE started as Treasurer for UBC's local AIEE/IRE branch. He has been an IEEE member since 1963. In November 2019, he joined the Vancouver Section as Chair, LMAG.
