Technical talk on "Gait Recognition and it’s Challenges"
On the occasion of IEEE SPS Day a technical talk was organised by IEEE SPS- Student Branch
Chapter, IIT (BHU) Varanasi on the topic “Gait Recognition and it’s Challenges” by Dr. Pratik
Chattopadhyay (Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science Engineering, IIT
(BHU) Varanasi). The event started with an introductory speech by Dr. Priya Ranjan Muduli
(Faculty Advisor, IEEE SPS-SBC IIT (BHU) Varanasi) followed by the technical talk by our
invited speaker. In this talk he explained the state-of-the-art techniques used for Gait
recognition and challenges associated with them. The talk was very informative, students
were also very interactive with the speaker regarding their doubts on this topic. The talk was
concluded with the vote of thanks by Mr. Bharat Bhushan Upadhyay (Chair Person, IEEE
SPS-SBC IIT (BHU) Varanasi). Finally a memento was presented to the invited speaker by
Prof. M.K. Meshram (Head, Department of Electronics Engineering, IIT (BHU) Varanasi).

Dr. Pratik Chattopadhyay of IIT BHU
Gait Recognition and it’s Challenges
The technical talk discussed about the methods of Gait recognition and the challenges faced in achieving this.
Biography:
Dr. Pratik Chattopadhyay is working as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi. Prior to this, He did his post-doctoral studies for one year at the School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and for six months at the Electronics and Communication Sciences Unit, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, India.
He completed his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India in 2015. The broad area of his Ph.D. research was Image and Video Processing.
He received Master degree (MCSE) in Computer Science & Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India in 2011, and B Tech degree in Computer Science & Engineering from West Bengal University of Technology, India in 2009.
