The IEEE WIE STAR PROGRAM 2022
As part of the Star Program challenge, our mission was to raise awareness amongst children as they are the future of this planet. .
Also, maintaining the program's sustainability was our key objective so that's why we created the "Sauver la planète"'magazine, which was published on our website and delivered to the school as a paper version. And that’s what we did on our visit when we targeted Ibn Rachiq Mourouj 3 school.
We used an icebreaker game to kick off our program and engage with kids and teachers while introducing the topic of "Earth our home."
At first, we presented an interactive series on the solar system called 'Alternatives to the Earth,' and we gave kids a Hologram model to see it in 3D to engage them and make learning more enjoyable. These interactive series were made available on our YouTube channel.
Next we divided kids into two groups and we held two parallel sessions:
During the first session, we introduced a topic on earth-related problems : ‘factors and drivers to earth’s damage’ and asked kids to draw a picture of what they think the Earth might look like in the future. Then a mini-ideathon was held where teams were formed to come up with solutions for saving the earth and a second drawing session had kids envision the Earth in the future as good citizens.
The other parallel session is a workshop series of handcraft with plastic bottles and garbage sorting. Children also played a monopoly game that we designed featuring the solar system and missions inspired from our workshops and sessions in order to reinforce the lessons of the first day.
And now to gain the attention of kids and make them learn in a fun way, we created a book where we enlisted the 3D models of planets and we launched the first edition of the magazine ‘Save the planet’ that we presented to kids and teachers.
At the end of the day, we planted flowers around the school courtyard.
The amount of positive feedback we received for this initiative has warmed our hearts.
