1) Consideration of a Sponsorship Request from Kevin Walsh for Scripps Student Symposium.

Website for the event: https://scripps.ucsd.edu/sss 

Details on the request: sponsorship of $500, which would include three invitations to the event, the organization's logo on the website and marketing materials, and temporary access to the Scripps Talent Recruitment Portal. Briefly discussed last month. 

2) Section Awards Banquet - site, budget review, plans, awards chair and committee

3) Senior Member application - request for references from Josh Birnbaum <jrbirnba@jbirnbaum.com> - two more needed. He has one from Viasat. 

4) Chair named for Engineering in Medicine and Biology (Miguel Alvarez Cabanillas <alvarez@ieee.org>) this is great news for revitalizing our chapters in the San Diego Section. Thank you to Dr. Alvarez for volunteering to chair the chapter. As you know, there was a successful petition to form the University of California at San Diego Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society Student Branch Chapter. The Society chapter has not had a chair in several years. This renewed activity is welcome and we look forward to a bright future in Engineering Medicine and Biology in San Diego. We need more members and collaboration for Dr. Alvarez. 

5) Rising Stars Support: IEEE UC San Diego Student Branch requests the IEEE San Diego Section’s support to send two IEEE UCSD student branch officers to the 2024 IEEE Rising Stars Conference (www.ieee-risingstars.org/) in Las Vegas January 5-7. 

The estimated cost of early bird registration per individual for Rising Stars is $329 and the registration closes on September 18th. Our University Partner has allocated funding for our accommodation and transportation already.
