The 2024 Del Mar Electronics and Manufacturing Show is April 24 and 25th (Weds/Thurs).  Del Mar Electronics & Manufacturing Show, Manufacturing San Diego Design, Testing Conference (mfgshow.com)

I have reserved a booth for both the Section and the Consultants’ network (same booths as last year).   The Section will need to decide how they want to use their booth space this year and who is going to help staff it.  I can get furniture for the show, just let me know what you need once you decide how you are going to use the space.

The show also has space for speakers.   I will be sending out speaking opportunities announcement early next week to the IEEE/CN list and I will ask Terry to send it out to big list as well.

The fee for the Section for the booth space is two e-mails each from the Section and the Consultants’ network.    The first will probably be late March, the second will be a week prior to the show.   I can work on the format and get the template to Terry for the Section.   I will be happy to send you drafts for additions before they go out.

1) Awards for the awards banquet? Program? Slide deck? Let's get them whipped into shape and decide if we want to print a program.

Our Annual Awards Banquet is 20 January 2024. We will open with a string quartet, showing the magic of performance, from 1100 to 1200, and there's a puzzle included in the music. Banquet lunch from 1200 to 1300. 1300 to 1330 is more magic, which will challenge what your eyes are telling you. We all know that engineering looks like magic to those that directly benefit from our efforts. Here's a chance to capture a bit of that feeling. 1330 to 1430 is a very highly rated technical talk with historical significance. Followed by awards to close. This is a packed event that is worth well more than $30. We need the best marketing we can muster to fill La Gran Terraza at USD. Please help. The vTools link is https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/382426 note that every chapter has been included in order to start everyone out with a chapter event. Please spread the word directly to your chapter and invite people to come. This is a really nice venue that will give you the chance to network and catch up with people from your Society to start the year off right.

2) Dear IEEE Chair,

Irwin Jacobs was proposed as a Legend by Qualcomm as part of their Engineers Week sponsorship package last year.  Unfortunately, SDCEC (Engineers Week Banquet) had not yet considered living Legends and there was not enough time for the Council to approve the change in policy or to prepare a write up.  Now that the policy has changed and the write up is done, Qualcomm has decided to not sponsor the Engineers Week banquet this year, because the Qualcomm employee who had been the champion for participation has retired.  Since Irwin Jacobs is an IEEE fellow, it would be fitting for IEEE to choose him as their engineering Legend.  Please consider this?

Regards,
Karen Lawrence
SDCEC Secretary

Actions that need to be taken:
A) Pay for the Founders Package, and include a Display Table for IEEE San Diego Section. Done!
B) Advertise to the Section for ticket takers. There are 8 tickets included in the Founders Package. Please find people to send. Priority for people that have not been before.
C) Purchase display/standee for table.
D) Do whatever required to handle the "legends" nomination for Dr. Irwin Jacobs (thank you Dr. Liangping for volunteering to lead this)

3) Officers added to vTools ok?

4) Kamala's Rising Starts report is in the media section of the vTools and was sent to the excomm mailing list. Please read it.
