IEEE Estonia IES/PELS/IAS/PES Joint Chapter, Department of Electrical Power Engineering and Mechatronics and Infineon Technologies Austria AG invites you to IPCEI on Microelectronics and Communication Technologies STEM Workshop:

Next Generation of EV Chargers

The workshop is led by Infineon Technologies Austria AG and will delve into the challenges faced and the innovative solutions developed. The accelerated growth of electric vehicles (EVs) and increasing demand for faster charging requires research and development of power electronic converters to achieve higher power levels, higher efficiencies and more compact EV on-board charging (OBC) solutions.

The original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are requiring a volume and weight decrease of the OBCs in order to be able to free up space for their components and to reduce the weight of the vehicles. The state-of-the-art power density for OBCs with Silicon devices is around 2 kW/L.  Utilizing wide bandgap (WBG) devices, the goal is to reach more than 6 kW/L, i.e., a factor of 3 improvement.

In this presentation, the impact of GaN devices on on-board chargers will be analyzed by means of a brief technology discussion, detailed topology review and hardware implementation examples for wide battery voltage range EV applications. The workshop will provide an interactive platform to connect participants from the worlds of industry, research, and education and Infineon to explore future collaboration opportunities to tackle remaining challenges in the field of microelectronics.
