The Inauguration Ceremony of the IEEE Student Branch NIT Manipur at the conference hall, NIT Manipur was held on 28th April 2023. This event marked a significant milestone in the establishment of the branch and was attended by faculty, students, and distinguished guests in hybrid mode. The welcome address was given by Dr. Kundan Kumar, Assistant Professor, and
Student Branch Counselor, NIT Manipur. An inaugural address was given by Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhushan, Dean (Acad), NIT Manipur, and Prof. Goutam Sutradhar, Director, NIT Manipur. The presidential address was given by Professor Deepak Mathur. He has elaborated on the necessity and benefits of the formation of an IEEE Unit on any academic Campus. Professor Mishra and Prof. Talukdar have also highlighted the benefits and opportunities for the IEEE members. At the end of the program vote of thanks was presented by Mr. Vikram Kumar Saxena, Interim Chair, IEEE Student Branch and PhD student, NIT Manipur.
The IEEE Student Branch Inauguration Ceremony at NIT Manipur was a resounding success, achieving its objectives of officially launching the branch, creating awareness, providing networking opportunities, and inspiring students. The event marked the beginning of an exciting journey for the student branch, and it is expected to continue to thrive and contribute to the academic and professional growth of its members.

Prof. Fazal A Talukdar of NIT Silchar
Inaugural Speech
Prof. Fazal A Talukdar, Chair, IEEE Silchar Subsection
Biography:
Prof. Fazal A Talukdar obtained his Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) from Regional Engineering College, Silchar (now, NIT Silchar) in 1987. He obtained his MTech in 1993 and PhD in 2003 from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and Jadavpur University respectively. He joined Regional Engineering College, Silchar as Lecturer in April 1991, became an Assistant Professor in March 1996 and promoted to Professor in May 2006. He was elevated to the level of a Professor (HAG) in 2018. Prior to joining Regional Engineering College, Silchar, he was a Lecturer in the Technical Education Department of the Government of Assam (August 1988 to March 1991). During 2006, he was a Visiting Scholar in the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), USA. He was Head of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering from August 2006 to April 2009 and again from April 2018 to March 2020.
He was the first Dean (Alumni Relations) during 2012-13, and Dean (Academic Affairs) during 2013-15. During July 2004 to June 2009, he was the Registrar of NIT Silchar. He also held the post of Deputy Registrar (Accounts) from March 2005 to August 2007. Besides these, he worked in many other Committees of the Institute. Currently, he is also a member of PRSG of MeITY and was Performance Auditor of NIT Mizoram and NIT Sikkim under TEQIP-III. He is a fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), Life Member of ISTE and a Senior Member of IEEE. He was the President, Institution’s Innovation Council during 2020- 2021
His research interests are Signal Processing, Communication, Power Electronics and Analog Circuit Design.
Presently, he is a chair of IEEE Silchar Subsection and under his leadership Silchar Subsection is doing excellent.

Prof. Iti Saha Misra of Jadavpur University

Biography:
Prof. Iti Saha Misra is the former Head and professor in the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Jadavpur University, Kolkata. She is the Senior Member of IEEE, present Chair of IEEE Kolkata Section, past ComSoc Chairperson, Kolkata Chapter, the founder Chair of Women in Engineering Affinity Group, IEEE Kolkata Section. Under her leadership, WIE Affinity Group won the Year of WIE 2007 award and IEEE ComSoc Kolkata Chapter won the 2015 and 2017 Chapter Achievement Awards. She has successfully completed the IEEE SIGHT project as the SIGHT founder Chair of IEEE Kolkata Section and developed successfully a project on Low Cost Low Bandwidth solution for remote virtual education system in the year 2013-2014.
She has authored about 250 research papers in refereed Journals and International Conferences and has filed several patents. She is the sole author of widely acclaimed text book on “Wireless Communication and Networks: 3G and Beyond” published by McGraw Hill. She is the co-author of the book “VoIP Application and Challenges, published by Springer.
She has supervised 20 PhDs, 60 Master’s theses, handled several projects from Govt. of India like, DST FIST, DST PURSE, UGC-UPE, AICTE etc.
Her current research interests are in the areas of Wireless Communication in general, VoIP and Video Communication over Cognitive Radio Networks, Low Cost and Energy Efficient IoT solutions, Mobility Management, Wireless Body Area Networks, Radio Resource Management, 5G Network Deployment Issues and Intelligent Transport System etc. She has developed advanced wireless communication laboratory in the ETCE Department of Jadavpur University.

Prof. Deepak Mathur
Inaugural Speech
Biography:
Prof. Deepak Mathur has served as the Director of IEEE Region 10 (Asia-Pacific) in 2021-2022. He is presently IEEE Vice President-Elect of Member and Geographic Activities (MGA) and he will be serving as IEEE Vice President of MGA in 2024.
Prof. Mathur has also served in various volunteer leadership roles within IEEE at Section, Council, Region and MGA. Previously, he was the IEEE India Council Chair in 2015-16. Prof. Deepak Mathur, a former Chief General Manager of ONGC (India’s premier public sector company engaged in exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons), has more than 37-years of professional experience in fields of electronics, telecommunication, IT infrastructure and has held various engineering and managerial positions during his career.
Prof. Mathur holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electronics and Communications from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee and an MBA. He has also completed Advance Management Program from Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Calcutta.
In his IEEE journey, Prof. Mathur has been the recipient of various IEEE recognitions and awards including the prestigious IEEE Region 10 Outstanding Volunteer Award, IEEE MGA Achievement Award and IEEE India Council Life Time Achievement award.
He is also a member of the highly acclaimed international honor society IEEE-HKN or Eta Kappa Nu (ΗΚΝ), which is known to promote excellence in profession and in education through an emphasis on scholarship, character, and attitude. Its membership is a lifelong designation for individuals who have distinguished themselves as students or as professionals in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, and other fields of IEEE’s interest.
