The IEEE Northern Virginia Section Hands-On Technical Workshop Series Presents: Build an Internet of Things Weather Station

By the end of this course you will:

  •         Learn what is meant by “The Internet of Things”.
  •         Experience breadboard prototyping techniques - no soldering needed.
  •         Program the ESP8266 System on Chip (SoC) using Arduino sketches.
  •         Interface environmental sensors using the I2C bus.
  •         Create an account on and upload data to a free IoT service.
  •         View your data graphs on a standard web browser.
  •         Take home your working IoT Weather Station!

You will also use Google Charts and MATLAB Visualizations if time permits.

Instructor:Karl Berger is a licensed Professional Engineer with over forty years of rail vehicle design experience. He is Chair of the Northern VA/Washington joint section Vehicular Technology Society chapter and a radio amateur.

Prerequisites: Bring and know how to use a laptop running a recent version of Windows with Wi-Fi, an open USB port, at least 1 GB of available disk space, a modern web browser, and charger. You must have sufficient privileges to install drivers and programs and view documents.  An Android or Apple smartphone with a browser and text messaging capability is optional.

Credit:  6 PDH (0.6 CEU)
