The event will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 10:00AM to 2:00PM at Largo Central Park, 101 Central Park Dr, Largo, FL 33771.
Our goal is to provide hands-on, interactive learning opportunities for our students that showcase the STEM skills used by various employers and community organizations in Pinellas County. REGISTRATION CLOSED
What: STEM Explorer Festival 2025 – this event is also combined with the City of Largo Touch-a-Truck event and the Florida Water Festival so there will be quite a bit of activity at the park!
When: Saturday, 1/18/2025 from 10:00AM to 2:00PM
Where: Largo Central Park, 101 Central Park Drive, Largo, FL 33771
Check-in: Check-in will be on the portico of the Largo Cultural Center. Look for the sign for your event (STEM Fest, Touch-a-Truck, or Water Festival). Please see the attached map.
Set-up: Begins at 8:00AM. IMPORTANT: No field access will be allowed this year. Please bring a cart to transport your materials from the parking lot. Temporary parking to drop off materials may be done in lots 1 or 3. Please do not use lot 2 as that is reserved for Touch a Truck. See attached map for more field access and parking information. A map with your exact location will be sent the week before the event.
Breakfast and Lunch: All exhibitors will be provided breakfast and lunch. Breakfast will be available at check-in. Wristbands will be provided to all exhibitors for lunch, which will be available in the Parkview Room at the Largo Cultural Center. Volunteers will also be delivering lunches in case you are too busy to step away from your exhibit.
Exhibits: Please ensure that your exhibit showcases the STEM skills used in your organization and allows children to participate in hands-on activities. We encourage you to share career information for your field. However, no goods may be sold at STEM Fest.
- Please note that, weather permitting, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office will land the police helicopter in the middle of the Largo Central Park field. This will create quite a lot of wind. Due to the nature of police work, we may only be able to give you a very short notice that they will be landing. We appreciate your understanding.
Other Details: Please note that there is limited availability of electrical power in the park. I will make every effort to place exhibits near power outlets where required, however, please plan to bring power strips if you need more than one power outlet. There is no Wi-Fi in Largo Central Park.
Restrooms: Are located near the playground.
Quiet hours: We request that noise be limited from 10:00AM to 12:00PM to allow younger children and those with sensory issues to enjoy our event.
Thank you again for supporting our 3rd annual STEM Explorer Festival! We are looking forward to seeing you soon!
Thanks,
Cathie

Pinellas County Schools is asking for volunteers from the IEEE to do a presentation promoting STEM at Largo Central Park in Pinellas County FL. Members around the Tampa Bay area are preferred for driving distance but welcome those around Florida. This is an In-Person Event, Not virtual.
Please look at and choose a lesson plan on https://tryengineering.org/teachers/lesson-plans/.
Those who can volunteer, please complete the registration: https://forms.office.com/r/8iEkqE1BFF
Email me venner20@ieee.org and CC the Pinellas County STEM Director Catherine Mullins MullinsC@pcsb.org between now and a week before the event. Register in VTools so that the Florida West Coast Section can promise PCS plenty of volunteers. The more the better until we say otherwise later.
Our Professional Engineers have done Conferences, STEM Fairs, Science Fairs, Professional Study Days on variety of lesson plans from hands on "Ohms Law" to how to "accepting failure in the classroom." We can team up some members to make the presentation go smoother.
