Introduction to IEEE P3888 - Guidelines for performance evaluation of industrial wireless systems
Talk of Prof. Pablo Angueira, Dpt. of Communication Engineering, Bilbao Faculty of Engineering, University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU)
The presentation will cover the basics of the draft new standard “IEEE P3888: Draft Standard for the Performance Assessment of Industrial Wireless Systems”.
This standard defines an RF reference environment model, test methodology, and evaluation process for performance testing of industrial wireless networks. It is protocol-agnostic, applicable to all wireless protocols used in mission-critical industrial settings where system reliability is crucial, such as industrial sensing and automation systems. These wireless systems carry essential data for sensor, actuator, command, and control functions in optimization and safety applications. The standard provides a model for radio impairments, a reference test architecture, and key performance metrics for evaluating the test setup and wireless systems. It also outlines a framework for standardized test profiles.
The presentation will describe the motivation and driving philosophy of the Technical Working Group behind this new standard. The talk will use a profiling example to illustrate the application of the methods proposed in the standard.

Introduction to IEEE P3888 - Guidelines for performance evaluation of industrial wireless systems
Biography:
Pablo Angueira received the M.S. and PhD in Telecommunication Engineering from the University of the Basque Country (Spain) in 1997 and 2002 respectively. He joined the Communications Engineering Department of the University of the Basque Country in 1998, where he is currently a tenured Full Professor. He is he the head of the Signal Processing and Radiocommunication Lab (http://www.ehu.es/tsr) composed of 21 professors and researchers. Pablo Angueira is co-author of an extensive list of journal papers, and many conference presentations in digital wireless systems. He has also coauthored several contributions to the ITU-R working groups WP6 and WP3. His main research interests are signal processing, network planning, and spectrum management applied to different fields. He is currently involved in research activities related to multimedia delivery in 5G and wireless systems for factory automation applications. He is currently coordinating the Technical Subgroup of the IEEE P3888 standardization working group (Wireless Performance Assessment and Measurement WG).
