IEEE Dibrugarh Univ Outreach program | IEEE Day Celebration
The IEEE Dibrugarh University Student Branch organized the second event for IEEE Day 2024 on 5th and 6th October. This event took place at Vidya: The Living School, located in a remote area on the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border in Dhemaji district. The purpose of the event was to engage with the local students and the school community, facilitating an exchange of knowledge and experiences while celebrating the spirit of IEEE.
A team of dedicated IEEE volunteers embarked on a 67-kilometer journey from Dibrugarh University to the school. The scenic route to this remote school was both challenging and rewarding, underscoring the commitment of our student branch to reach underserved communities. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the school’s students and staff.
Day 1: Engaging Activities and Building Connections
The first day was filled with a variety of interactive activities designed to foster connection and share knowledge with the students:
-
Games and Interaction: We began by playing games with the students, which helped us break the ice and build camaraderie. The games also allowed us to learn more about the students’ interests and their unique perspectives on education and life in a rural area.
-
Organic Soap-Making Project: One of the most impressive highlights of the day was learning about the students' innovative organic soap-making project.
-
Meals and Bonding: Sharing meals with the students and staff helped create a stronger bond between our team and the school community. We had open discussions about their daily lives, aspirations, and the challenges they face, particularly related to education in a remote area. Spending the night at the school further deepened our connection, as we experienced their way of life firsthand.
-
Discussions with Teachers: The teachers at Vidya: The Living School provided us with valuable insights into the unique challenges they face in educating students in such a remote location. The discussions covered issues such as limited access to resources, infrastructure challenges, and the need for more innovative educational tools. We explored potential ways to support the school and its students, including possible future collaborations and initiatives.
Day 2: Interactive Session and Filming
On the second day, we continued our engagement with the students through an interactive session that included discussions about technology, education, and personal growth. This session was particularly impactful, as the students were eager to learn more about the opportunities that IEEE could offer and how technology can drive positive change in their community.
-
Filming: We also filmed a series of videos throughout the day that will be released soon. These videos aim to document the experiences and perspectives of both the students and the IEEE volunteers, showcasing the power of education, innovation, and community engagement.
-
Special Guests: The session was enriched by the presence of two distinguished guests: Mr. Anup Sharma, an engineer from Nutanix, Bangalore, and Mr. Suraj Chetia. Their participation added immense value to the event, as they shared their professional experiences, career advice, and insights into the world of engineering and technology. The students were particularly inspired by their success stories and the challenges they overcame in their professional journeys.
The second event for IEEE Day 2024 was a heartwarming and inspiring experience for everyone involved. Our interaction with the students at Vidya: The Living School provided us with a deeper understanding of the importance of community outreach, especially in rural and underserved areas. The two-day event helped strengthen the bond between the IEEE Dibrugarh University Student Branch and the local community, while also planting seeds of curiosity, innovation, and hope in the minds of the students.
We look forward to continuing our efforts in supporting Vidya: The Living School and exploring more ways in which IEEE can contribute to the growth and development of these young minds and their community.
