Charging Infrastructure Innovations II
On the 25th of August, 2024, IEEE Y2NPro conducted the third webinar in their Battery Technology and Charging Infrastructure for Electric Vehicles Workshop Series. Held virtually at 6 p.m., the session featured Dr. Beshan Kulapala, Vice President of Technology and Innovation at Volt Charge, Saudi Arabia, and CEO of Cyrus Sri Lanka.
Titled “Charging Infrastructure Innovations II,” the webinar focused on the advancements in EV charging networks, with Dr. Kulapala drawing from his vast experience in founding Vega Innovations and developing South Asia’s first electric supercar. His presentation provided participants with insights into building large-scale charging networks, such as Sri Lanka’s Chargenet, and discussed the integration of EV infrastructure with innovative technologies in the field. He also shared his experiences from working at Intel Corporation, offering a unique perspective on technological leadership.
The event saw an audience of 47 participants, including IEEE members and guests, who were highly engaged during the interactive session. Dr. Kulapala’s expertise, particularly in leading transformative projects in EV technology, made the session both informative and inspiring for those interested in the future of charging infrastructure.

Biography:
Dr. Beshan Kulapala is a distinguished tech entrepreneur and the Vice President of Technology and Innovation at Volt Charge in Saudi Arabia, as well as the CEO of Cyrus Sri Lanka. He co-founded Vega Innovations, where he was instrumental in developing South Asia’s first electric supercar, unveiled at the Geneva International Motor Show in 2020. He also spearheaded the creation of Chargenet, Sri Lanka’s largest EV charging network, and Aigrow, an agriculture technology solutions provider. Previously, Dr. Kulapala was an Engineering Manager at Intel Corporation, USA, where he led teams to develop integrated debug and survivability capabilities for CPU products and co-founded the Validation Core Unit (VCU). He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering and an MBA from Arizona State University. Additionally, he serves as the Chairman of the Sarva Medical Clinic in Colombo and volunteers as a Scout Master, demonstrating his commitment to both technological advancement and community service.
