Welcome by Chairperson
Dr. Uzma Jamil welcomed all ExCom members and officially opened the meeting.
Agenda Points:
Approval of IEEE Faisalabad Subsection Bylaws
All members will review the final draft of the bylaws and provide comments or vote for approval/disapproval in an online meeting scheduled for October 11, 2024, at 7:00 PM.
Discussion:
Dr. Gufran suggested reducing the tenure for ExCom members to 1 year for fast-track activities.
Opinions: Ms. Asma, Mr. Aftab, Mr. Zubair, Dr. Umar Aftab, Dr. Aashir, Ms. Ammara Maqbool, and Ms. Sadia Riaz preferred a 2-year tenure, while Mr. Asim Tanveer and Mr. Husnain supported 1 year.
Decision: Majority voted for a 2-year tenure, rejecting the 1-year proposal.
Nomination Committee:
Mr. Aftab ur Rehman suggested that members with less than 5 years of IEEE experience be eligible for the Nomination Committee.
Decision: The committee approved a requirement of at least 5 years of experience.
IEEE PSYWC'24 Participation
Discussions will be held with branches once SAC Chair receives details. ExCom members will join upon invitation.
Subsection Funds and Rebates Status
Dr. Uzma informed that the IEEE Lahore Section Budget is not yet approved.
Action: Mr. Zubair will email the bills and claim the $550 rebate from the Lahore Section.
Formation of Nomination Committee for 2025-26 Elections
o Dr. Uzma informed the committee about the bylaws for selecting the Nomination Committee, explaining that, according to the bylaws, only one member can be from the current Executive Committee (ExCom). Ms. Asma raised a concern that the IEEE Faisalabad Subsection is not yet mature and lacks experienced members who are familiar with the bylaws and processes.
o To address this, Dr. Gufran suggested that, for this year, excom allow two members from the current ExCom to be part of the Nomination Committee. All ExCom members agreed with this suggestion, and it was approved to include two members from the current ExCom in the Nomination Committee.
o The Nomination Committee will therefore include two current ExCom members and one external member. Dr. Gufran and Dr. Uzma were selected from the current ExCom, while Dr. Rehan, an IEEE Senior Member from GCUF, will serve as the external member..
IEEE Faisalabad Section Process and Status
ExCom will ensure all members renew their memberships before November and submit a petition to upgrade the IEEE Faisalabad Subsection.
Closing Remarks:
The meeting concluded with the decision to follow up on action points in the next meeting.
