TITLE: Navigating Cybersecurity and Systemic Risk in a Rapidly Advancing Technological Landscape

 

 

Program:

In our globally interconnected world, the rapid advancement and intersection of technologies present both unprecedented opportunities and significant risks. This presentation will explore the ethical misuse, systemic risk, and cascading failures that arise as technology evolves faster than regulation and current cybersecurity measures. Key topics include the threat landscape of adversarial AI, the potential for quantum computing to crack encryption and expose secrets, and the unintended consequences of technological progress. Attendees will gain insights into the challenges and strategies for defending against these emerging threats in the coming years and decades.

 

About the Speaker:

Dr. John D. Johnson is a cybersecurity executive with over 30 years of experience. He is the founder/CEO of Aligned Security and Docent Institute, which promotes cybersecurity education and outreach to underserved communities. John earned his Ph.D. in Physics from UT-Austin. He has experience across all sectors, starting at Los Alamos National Laboratory and subsequently as a security leader at large enterprises, including John Deere, Deloitte, and Campbell Soup Company. He has developed and taught numerous cybersecurity courses online and in person for colleges over 20 years.

Dr. Johnson serves on the ISSA International Board of Directors, is the ISSA Education Foundation Director of Fundraising, and is an active leader within ISC2, InfraGard, and IEEE; currently serving as Vice Chair of the Iowa-Illinois Section and Chair of the Iowa-Illinois Computer Society Chapter. His leadership roles within IEEE have included MGA Awards and Recognition Chair, IEEE-USA VP of Communications, and Computer Society Board of Governors. He founded the QC Cybersecurity Alliance and CornCon Cybersecurity Conference and has been a founding board member for cyber education nonprofits and corporate advisory boards. He is a frequent speaker and serves on program committees for industry conferences, such as Black Hat and RSA Conference.
