Dr. A S Rao Memorial Lecture - Second Edition

Organized by the IES Chapter, IEEE Hyderabad Section, the Dr. A S Rao Memorial Lecture is an annual flagship event inaugurated in 2023. About Dr. A S Rao

Dr. Ayyagari Sambasiva Rao (1914–2003), or A. S. Rao, was a prominent Indian scientist and founder of Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL). Known for his contributions to engineering and international representation of India, Dr. Rao earned numerous honors, including the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and the Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Award. A.S. Rao Nagar in Secunderabad is named in his honor, and his legacy continues to inspire advancements in engineering sciences.

Abstract of the Talk: "ARCI Developed Advanced Ceramic Products & Technologies for Electronic Applications"

Dr. Suresh will explore ARCI’s advancements in engineering ceramics, which excel in thermo-mechanical, tribological, and corrosion resistance. Highlighting applications in aerospace, biomedical, and energy sectors, he will discuss ceramic components developed at ARCI, including alumina-based holders, zirconia-based fuel cells, and ceramic honeycomb structures for diverse civilian and strategic needs. The lecture will cover recent developments and case studies on advanced ceramic technologies and innovations in additive manufacturing for complex ceramic structures.

Biography:

Speaker Profile: Dr. Madireddy Buchi Suresh

  • Position: Scientist-F, ARCI, Hyderabad
  • Experience: 28 years in research and teaching
  • Notable Achievements: University gold medalist, awarded four gold medals in M.Sc. (Physics), published 85 peer-reviewed articles, and authored a book chapter on advanced ceramics.
  • Research Focus: Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC-SOEC), Transparent and Porous Ceramics, Low Expanding Glass Ceramics, and Electrochemical Measurements.
  • Academic record: Post Doctoral Associate: Dept. of Mech. Engg., NTUST, Taiwan (August, 2006 to August, 2008)

Dr. Suresh, a life member of the Indian Ceramic Society and an invited lecturer for JNTUH and Osmania University, has contributed significantly to advanced ceramic products for both strategic and civilian applications, including IR and visible transparent domes for missile use. He currently leads two major ARCI projects focused on energy and hydrogen generation.
