At our latest event, IoT in Smart Farming, organized in collaboration with IEEE SIGHT ENIS SBG and IEEE PES ENIS SBC, we introduced participants to the powerful potential of the Internet of Things in transforming agricultural practices. Led by Ms. Amina Kessentini, an Electrical Engineer with a Master’s in Electronic Engineering and a researcher in embedded systems, the session began with an introduction to IoT and AI applications in the energy sector, setting the foundation for understanding smart farming technology. Ms. Kessentini then guided participants through the different types of sensors, boards and essential components used in IoT, including ESP32. The hands-on segment allowed attendees to work with these components directly, constructing smart farming prototypes designed to monitor environmental conditions such as soil moisture, temperature, and light. By building these models, participants gained a practical understanding of how IoT can improve farming efficiency and sustainability.

The event concluded with a collaborative project-building session, where each team developed unique prototypes tailored to address real-life farming challenges. It was a fantastic opportunity to experiment with coding, circuit design, and data collection, providing participants with valuable skills to innovate in agriculture. This engaging experience highlighted the transformative impact of IoT on modern farming and inspired many to explore further innovations in sustainable agriculture.
