Field Visit to Karot Hydropower Plant

The IEEE Student Branch at NUTECH organized an educational field visit to the Karot Hydropower Plant, a 720MW run-of-river project on the Jhelum River. This visit was an excellent opportunity for participants to gain practical knowledge about hydropower generation. The day started with an introductory session covering the dam's structure, safety protocols, and the significance of the project in Pakistan's energy landscape. Participants observed the electricity generation process during a guided tour of the plant, learning about turbine and generator operations. After lunch, the visit concluded with a tour of the control room, where the entire plant's operations are managed. The visit was highly informative and greatly enhanced participants' understanding of hydropower systems and control mechanisms.
